I will generally be adding pages in the order that it is easiest for me to generate them. I will add stats that have been used in the Trivia Quiz that has been run on the Junior Eurovision 2011 in Yerevan Facebook page.

The first new page for the New Year is a look at how well Host countries have done in their JESC event.

The most successful Host country so far is Ukraine in 2013 when Sofia finished in 2nd place.

The Media Links Page now has links to iTunes for those performers that I have been able to find.

The page will try to link you to your nearest iTunes store based on your IP address. If this isn't the right store for you (or you would like to view what is available in a different store) there is a drop-down menu to select any of the iTunes stores. These listings will have the country code in brackets [e.g. (NL), (RO)] added to the description.

It the artist isn't available in your iTunes store then a link is provided to an iTunes store where that artist is available. This is usually the store in their home country, if they are available there. These listings do not have the country code added to the description.

Any albums that are available in the listed iTunes store are also included. These lists also include the price, the number of tracks on the album and the date that the album was released.

The page uses cookies to keep track of which iTunes store to use and using these links to purchase music will help with the costs of running JESCipedia.

The Media Links page has now been updated to the new format.

Links to performers can be found by either selecting the Year that they performed, or the country that they represented, at JESC. Links that are related to JESC but not to a performer, can be accessed by selecting the Year without selecting a performer.

Over the next few days I will be adding links to iTunes pages for the performers.

All the stats have now been updated to include the 2013 JESC. And all of the Acts are now included in the pages.

And JESCipedia congratulates Gaia Cauchi for winning at JESC and having the best ever result for Malta in any ESC event. Well done.

The Records Page has now been fully updated. There are now Records and Summary Stats for all of the stats pages on the site.

Keen eyed users will notice that some of the Country stats are different from the previous version and different from what can be calculated from the general page. This is because the new Records Page has Serbia and Montenegro as a separate country and does not include it with Serbia.

The Records Page is being updated and is now available on the menus. The new page has all of the records for the Performers, Acts and Songs statistics but only has the Most Votes summaries for the Countries and Languages stats. There are also some new stats added to some of the pages.

As the new Records Page is generated as you view it, it will update automatically as the votes from this years event are entered. It also means that page loads become too slow if all of the stats are included on the one page. So, the new Records Page has been split into different sub-pages for each of the main menus (Performers, Acts, Songs, Countries and Languages.

The Old Records Page will remain on the menus until the new page is completed (but this page will not update with this years vote).

New links have been added to the Performers Links Page for this years contestants. Only links for the information pages have been added publicly. Official links will not be chased up until after this years events as I am sure that the performers, and their management, are too busy at the moment.

The General JESC Links and the Performer's Links have now been updated to the new format. The links on these pages have now been split up in to different groups that can be selected from a menu on the pages.

Links to the performer's sites can be selected by the year they performed or the country that they represented. All acts that meet the criteria selected are then listed below the list of years or countries where you can chose the artist. Artists that have appeared more than once are listed under each occurrence which contains all of that artist's links. The artists are listed under the name that they appeared in JESC. Members of groups, and a few other performers, also get a listing under their own name.

The only page left to update is the media links page. This may take a while as the page needs to look up other sites to gain some of it's links.

The last of the stats page has now been updated to the new style. This leaves only the Links pages to be done (which may take a little time to complete).

The new pages are the Countries - Voting Bias (which only lists voting patterns that differ significantly from how the song ends) and the Countries - Voting Bias (All) (which lists all voting patterns).

Keen observers will notice that the results of the new page differ from those of the old version. This is because I have chosen a slightly different method of calculating the significance value. I did this because I noticed that under the older method any country that voted for songs in the same order as the final results would be classed as having a very small (non-significant) bias in their voting. Under the new system they have no bias at all. This change results in a slightly different significance score and, therefore, a different number of songs that are classed as being significantly different to what would be expected. This change still means that it is unlikely that there is any problem with biased voting at JESC.

Some more changes to the site, this time the Girls v Boys has been rewritten to use the new menus and 2 new pages have been added.

The new pages are Countries: Debut and Languages: Debut. These pages give the details of the first songs performed at JESC by each country that has taken part and the first songs that have been sung in each language.

Both pages are listed in finishing position order and also give the points, votes, act and song title of the first entries.

2 new pages have been added.

The first page is Performers: Age Now and is a list of the current ages of the JESC performers that I have birthdays for. The list goes from Denis Midone (Moldova 2012) [11 Years, 4 Months and 15 days] to Katsiaryna Lipouskaya (Belarus 2003) [26 Years and 27 days]. The ages are calculated when you open the page so will always be up to date.

The second page is Countries: Tempo Voted For and contains the average tempo of the songs that each country has voted for. The average has been weighted in favour of the songs that the countries have given more votes to.

Most of the pages have now been rewritten in PHP. This adds the mobile friendly menu when viewed on a phone or tablet, or a computer without javascript.

The pages also look a little different. The rows have been numbered so that you can still see the original order when you sort the tables by a different column. Row colours have also been changed to make it easier to view.

The changes will allow for changes to the database to show on the site immediately. This will mean that when the results of this years JESC are input they will be seen immediately on the site.

The other pages require a bit more work to have them ready.

The 'Acts - Most Votes' page has now been rewritten in php. This means that the new menu system is now also on that page and is easier to navigate on mobile devices and if javascript is turned off.

I have also added the ranking order on each line, so that you can see what position each act have overall. This will also be there when sorting the data by different columns.

Over the next few days I will be updating all of the simple look up pages. This should update most of the website over the next few days. The more complicated pages (those that need a lot of calculation) will take a bit longer to be updated.

The Home page has now been rewritten in PHP. The only change that you are likely to notice is that a new menu system has been added to make navigation a bit easier for mobile devices and for those with javascript turned off. The new menu will only be available on the new pages (only the Home page at the moment), so you may need to use the back button often.

The JESCipedia Forums have now been added to the Tapatalk app. So now you can take the forums with you on your mobile device.

I am currently rewriting the website to use .php coding rather than .html pages. The main reason for this is to make it easier to update the website over the web. It will also make it much quicker to include the results after a new show, it will make some pages easier to generate, and easier to translate the website into languages other than English.

In case people have bookmarked some of the pages I will change the .html pages to redirect to the new .php pages when each new page is done - except for the home page, as typing in 'jescipedia.com' will take you to the new page automatically.

The latest addition to JESCipedia is a Forums section where you can discuss anything to do with the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. You can get there by selecting 'Forums' from the 'Home' menu, or by typing http://forums.jescipedia.com into your browser. You will then need to register to post in any of the forums. You can also pick your top 3 songs for each JESC.

The Media Links page has not been updated due to changes with YouTube. This will result in the need to rewrite the code that generates the list of links.

All JESC acts that are in Google Play have now been added to the Media links page. All those that are easy to find have been added, and a few that are not so easy to find. More will be added as I find them.

As you may have noticed, JESCipedia now has adverts on all pages. These are thanks to Google AdSense and will, hopefully, cover the costs of running the site. There is also a custom search engine, that should put Junior Eurovision and Eurovision sites higher in the list.

As a result of this I have also decided to add links to 'Music on Google Play' pages that deal with recordings by JESC performers on to the Media links page. Many of these pages don't actually contain any music at the moment but it can be presumed that they will soon be adding some, othewise, why create the page. At the moment only links for performers who have appeared in the 2009 - 2012 JESCs have been added but the other years will be added over the next few days. Some links have also been added for recordings associated with the National Selections.

No new information on the site but most pages have been changed. Most of the tables now allow you to sort the data by any column by simply clicking on the column header.

If you are wanting to find information on a specific performer then it is easier to find them when the table is sorted by name. The same goes for information on a particular Country, or year, simply set the sort to the Country, or the year, and it will be easier to see.

Rows that have the same value in the sort are kept in the same order as they were before the sort, so you can set up complex sorts on the tables. For example, if you sort by Year and then by Country the list will be in Country order with the earlier competitors appearing first.

A new link to esc-plus.com has been added to the General Links page.

I have created a countdown timer to the next ESC event. This script displays the next ESC event and the amount of time until that event. Once that event starts the script then immediately starts the countdown to the next event that follows.

Currently this script is counting down to the Eurovision Song Contest 1st Semi-Final. It will then go to the 2nd Semi and then the Final. After that it will count down to Junior Eurovision Events.

If you would like to include the script on your website simply include the following code (the 'width' and 'height' numbers may need to be changed in some circumstances):

A countdown timer has been added to the JESCipedia header that counts down the time until JESC 2013. As there has not yet been an announcement of the time of JESC 2013, the counter is assuming a time of 20:00 CET. This will be corrected as soon as the official start time is released.

A new links page has been added. The new page is JESC Media links page. This is a page that list links to videos of JESC performers. It also includes links to videos on authenticated YouTube channels of performers. At the top of the page is a list of links to videos of recent releases of JESC performers.

I have only included links to videos and YouTube channels that have been authenticated and approved by the performers, or their management. At the moment media links have only been added for the following performers:

The Performer's JESC Site links page has now been added. This contains links to sites about those performers who have appeared at JESC. There are 3 types of links included on the page: Official links that have been approved by the artist or their management; Fan links to Fan sites that have also been approved by the artist or their management; and information links to sites that give information about the performers (for example, junioreurovison.tv, esckaz.com, etc.).

Information links have been added for all acts that appeared at JESC between 2003 and 2008. The rest will be added soon, as I can add them to the database.

At the moment only 3 acts have had Official links added. They are Vlad Krutskikh (Russia 2005), Sophie Debattista (Malta 2006), and Dalita Avanessian (Armenia 2011).

Other performers will be added as I can. The order that new artists will be added will be the order that is easiest for me to verify links. As new artists are added announcements will be made on the home page, Twitter and Facebook.

The General JESC Site links page has now been added. This contains links to sites that have some connection to JESC. As some sites have many pages dealing with JESC (i.e. JuniorEurovision.tv and esckaz.com) links to selected pages on those sites have also been included. Links to the main pages on Wikipedia have also been included in the list.

Sites, and pages, that deal with a single JESC act or participant are not included in this list. They will be included in another list of JESC participants that will be generated later.

The next pages to be added will be some links pages. There will be 2 different pages of links: 1 page will be links to JESC sites and will include links to different pages of the larger sites (if you want to ensure that your favourite JESC site then feel free to email me at info@jescipedia.com); the other page will include links to websites and social media of performers. On the page of links to performers sites, only authenticated links will be included: and they will be posted with an authentication chain (a series of links that start with a trusted source) so that you can judge the authentification for your self.

This process is taking a little while as I have to restructure the links that I have collected in order for them to be processed by the programs. I will also be contacting the performers (or their management) so that they can have the opportunity to add to the list or to remove any links that they do not want public.

Now we have the Girls v Boys page added to the site. This page compares the number of votes that have been received by all boy acts, all girl acts and acts that have boys and girls.

There have been more girls than boys appearing at JESC. 165 girls, 89 boys have appeared as Main Performers and 309 girls, 133 boys have appeared as Support Performers. This gives us a total of 474 girls and 222 boys have performed on the various JESC stages.

While girls have achieved the highest scores, overall boys have, on average, received more votes than girls, but the difference is small. Boys have averaged 4.140 votes from each country and girls have received 4.057, with mixed groups averaging 3.854 votes.

I have now added the page for the lengths of the songs. As can be seen from the Records page there is clearly no significant difference between the length of songs of the winners and the other songs.

Finally, all of the new routines have been rewritten and the website has been completely regenerated. There have not been many changes to the individual pages but there have been changes to the Records page, and some new additions to the Acknowledgments page.

I will start adding new pages tomorrow.

It is likely to be a little while before there are any new pages added here as I am in the process of rewriting the routines that generate the webpages using a library that makes the calculation of statistics much easier. This is unlikely to have much effect on the pages that have already been added but it may result in some additions to the records page.

Another new page today. This page is a list of all of the countries that have competed at JESC in the order of the average tempo [speed] of songs that they have sent to the competition.

Another new page, this one is a list of all the songs that have been performed at JESC in order of the song's tempo. Most of the winning songs have been towards the faster end of the list, with "Nebo" (Anastasia Petryk, Ukraine 2012) being the only winning song that is slower than 100 Beats Per Minute.

Today we add a page to answer the question about whether countries vote for a song because of what country the song is represented rather than how good the song is. In order to answer this question I have looked at how many points each country has given to each of the other countries that they could vote for and compared this to the final position that the song achieved in the contest. Then I had to work out if the difference between their voting and the final results is statistically significant (that is, if it is caused by a bias or by random factors). This took a while to program and, with the delightful interuption of the 2012 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam, is the reason why there hasn't been any updates for a while.

Appologies, I have found a small error in the program that generates the tables that resulted in some of the averages being wrong. It was not including the Voting from those who did not compete (Cyprus in 2005 and the Kid's Jury in 2012). I appologise for this error and it has now been corrected.

All the stats have now been updated to include the 2012 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. New pages will appear again soon.

Also, there have been a few other changes that should make the site look better on small screens.

Now that The 2012 JESC has finished. Jescipedia.com gladly congratulates Anastasia Petryk for winning the competition. A very worthy winner from a very strong field. Well done to all the performers.

A new page today (a "Records" page), after a bit of a delay since the previous page. This was not because I have been slack but because the latest page took quite a bit of programming to automate. The programming involved having to change the programs for generating the other pages so that they would generate the data for this page.

The new page contains the records from all of the other pages, as well as other summary statistics (averages; distributions; numbers of participants, countries, and languages).

This page is the most ambitious page so far. It contains links to all of the other pages of statistics and each section of data is initially hidden from view. To view the data, simply click on the circle below the page heading and the data will appear; to hide the data again, simply click anywhere in the box and it will go back to being a small circle.

A couple of extra additions today. As can be seen I have added a countdown timer to the header of every page so that you can see how long there is until JESC 2012 starts.

The other addition is a new stats page where all of the performers that have appeared at JESC in order of how old they were when they appeared on the JESC stage. Unfortunately, I do not have birthdays for all of the JESC performers so this list only includes those performers for whom I have birthdays. If you have a birth date that I am missing (or you find an error in the date that I have) please let me know, and where you got the birth date from and, if I can authenticate your source, then I will add it to my list. Another 2 pages have been added. This time the pages are the average position that each country and language have achieved at JESC. These stats are similar to the best positions stats that were added yesterday but with the number of points divided by the number of songs that have been entered in JESC so that countries and languages that have appeared a different number of times can be compared evenly.

Points have been awarded based on where the country or language has finished at JESC. Points have been awarded using the 'Eurovision' system of '12 points' for a win, '10 points' for a second place, 8 points for a 3rd place, on to '1 point' for a 10th place. These points are then added together to get a total number of points.
