Stats on the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

For Margo Raats and all the other performers who tried out for JESC but did not make it to the International Final, don't let the disappointment stop you singing.

Acknowledgments

This is the page where I get to say "Thank You" to everyone who has contributed to this site in some way - even if they were not aware of it.

First, I would like to thank Marc Mingels for suggesting the name 'JESCipedia' when commenting about the 'Trivia Quiz' that I was running in the Junior Eurovision 2011 in Yerevan facebook page. I would also like to thank all of the followers of that page, particularly those who took part in the Trivia Quiz as that lead to the idea for this site.

Next, I would like to thank those websites that I have got the data for this site from. In particular I would like to thank Andy Mikheev, of ESCkaz, for providing so much information on the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and for keeping all the information on previous events freely available on the web. I would also like to thank the teams at ESCdaily, escXtra and JuniorEurosong.net and last, but by no means least, the Official Website of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Other, none JESC, sites that I have taken information from, and would like to thank, are: [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JuniorEurovisionSong_Contest); IMDb (the Internet Movie Database); the Official websites of Broadcasters who have taken part in JESC; and the personal websites, facebook pages and twitter feeds of the performers who have competed at JESC. Thank you to all those who maintain or contribute to those web pages.

I would also like to thank the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for organising the whole thing and ensuring that each event goes off smoothly; the various Broadcasters that have hosted the events for producing such excellent shows; all the broadcasters that take part in the competition for organising the various acts that take part; all of the performers who have taken part in the different events, without whom there would be no point to all this; all of the crews, and everyone else who has worked behind the scenes, of the international event and all of the preselection events; and to all of the hopeful performers who tried out for JESC but were not successful for they are the ones who have guaranteed the high quality of performances that have graced the international stage.

I would like to thank the teams that are behind the development of the Python scripting language and the SciPy and NumPy libraries as they are essential for creating the website.

Finally, I would like to thank the authors of the reference books that I have used to create this site: Robin Nixon, The Web Developer's Cookbook for the code for the menus; J.D. Gauchat, HTML5 for Masterminds for teaching me how to code HTML5 and CSS; Bruce Hyslop, The HTML Pocket Guide for providing a reference on HTML5 tags; the official Python website as the site is generated using Python scripts, both the Python interpreter and the documentation are essential; Brad Dayley, Python Phrasebook for snipets of code; Mark Lutz, Python Pocket Reference for providing a reference on Python code; Eli Bressert, SciPy and NumPy for guidence on using the SciPy and NumPy libraries; Ivan Idris, NumPy 1.5 Beginner's Guide for an introduction to using the SciPy and NumPy libraries; Allen B. Downey, Think Stats for explaining how to use Python scripts to work out stats; Sarah Boslaugh, Statistics in a Nutshell for providing a general reference on statistics.
